Just wanna get some feedback. This is the second section of the first part of chapter 1 of the story I am writing...

“Knock knock. Anyone home?”

The lights lit up in tandem, as if to announce Dennis’s arrival with a grand entrance.

“Hellooo...?” He expected a reply. There was none. “I’m coming in…”

So I got the whole place to myself eh? Dennis grinned. If the front lobby alone could already accommodate a hundred people, what bigger surprises could be in store for him?

Dennis proceeded to check all the nooks and crannies of the ground floor, making sure he did not miss out on anything. He was all smiles upon discovering the backyard – a giant winding tube slide was the main attraction, circling the huge irregular shaped pool below it. He could feel his adrenaline rush as he imagined himself plunging into the refreshing crystal clear waters from over 50 feet high. But as much as he wanted to take a dip, he knew that familiarizing himself with the floor plan comes first in his list of priorities. “Besides, I’ve got all the time for this later.” He reassured himself.

Dennis returned inside, eager to find out what awaits him in the upper levels. Strange noises from a distance made him stop for a second. He had the strangest feeling that he was being followed.

Clomp clomp clomp clomp. He wasn’t mistaken. The sound was fast approaching.

“Who’s there?” Dennis hollered.

Warf!

“What the hell was that?!”

His answer came into sight almost instantaneously, when a silver four-legged mechanical being popped out from a corner and, like a child that had long missed his parent, hurriedly ran towards the boy.

“Warf warf!” The creature sounded as it wagged its antennae-like tail playfully.

“A puppy! Sooo cute!” Dennis unstrapped his backpack and bent down to get a better look at the canine. He could not help but notice the huge lens barrel – and the rotating focus ring on its front – that replaced the dog’s facial features. “Has anyone ever told you that you look like a camera?” He asked.

“No, you’re the first to call me that. Warf warf!”

Dennis was taken aback by surprise. “Whoa! It talks!”

“You must be Dennis. My name is SPOT. Pleased to meet you, master. Warf warf!”

Such words were music to Dennis’s ears. Having a robot around would definitely add a lot to his bragging rights; and besides, he had always wanted a dog as a pet since childhood.

Dennis: Hey there, Spot! Know any cool tricks?

SPOT: I can talk, warf!

Dennis: Really awesome… Like I didn’t know that, dummy!

SPOT: Warf! My task is to provide you with your daily necessities for the entire duration of your stay here at Calave. I’ll prepare your food, wash your clothes, and keep this place safe and clean. Just call me if you need anything. At your service, warf warf!

Dennis: Now, that’s a new one.

SPOT: And if you’re feeling lonesome and just want some company, I’ll always be around. Maybe we could play catch or some video games together, warf warf!

Dennis: I’m sure you’ll be the perfect companion, Spot!

SPOT: Just don't expect me to lick you because I have no tongue, warf warf!

Dennis: Your sense of humor is something else.

SPOT: Warf! Before that, I’ll need to show you around. Are you ready, master? Warf warf!

Dennis: Right on!

Speechless.

Perhaps that was the one word that could describe Dennis after touring the mansion. The water park in the backyard was nothing compared to the state-of-the-art 4D entertainment and game room, the ambient music hall, the cutting edge fitness center, the invigorating sauna and steam rooms, the luxurious Jacuzzi tubs… And that was only the beginning; there were more – far more than anything he could imagine in his wildest dreams.

“And this is your room, warf!”

Dennis didn’t hesitate one second. He marched inside, only to be stunned once again at what the room has to offer. SPOT remained by the entrance, observing the restless lad wander excitedly around the oversized bedroom.

“Please make yourself at home as I leave you for a moment to bring your things upstairs, warf warf!” And the dog was nowhere in sight.

“Phew! What a day!” Dennis exclaimed, physically and emotionally overwhelmed since morning. The happenings were just too farfetched – arriving at the country of his dreams, being chauffeured around in a limousine, making a new friend, acquiring a 3-storey mansion, and now, meeting a talking robot dog. “I need a break.”

Dennis flung off his jacket and plopped down on one of the king-sized beds inside the oversized bedroom. He could feel the tension from his muscles ease away as the soft mattress slowly brought his mind to a state of peace and rest.

“Oh yeah, this is the life…”

To my mom who checks my Multiply... every now and then.

It's been a while.

I'm writing this at around 3am our time in the Philippines.

I'll keep things short.

I would like to extend my appreciation for the support you have been lending me since the beginning. You acted as a spot in my daily handstand/headstand trainings, advised me against - but always failed - my crazy escapades, turned an open ear to my story Alphario, and many, many more.

Sometimes you don't think before you speak. I get mad at times. Sorry.

I'm sleepy and can't think straight.

I would say it's been... three... maybe four years since I greeted you.

Now's probably a good time.

Happy Mother's Day.
It's still May 9 in many parts of the world.

Wooo~ it's been quite a while since I last posted.

I miss college. Work life's a lot different. The stress is different as well. I won't go into detail as the thought of work often makes me depressed.

Anyway, I'm quitting April 8, and I managed to grab hold of a 1-week vacation before that (not to mention that it is Holy Week next week). We're off to Macau!

Personally, I don't know what we'll be doing there. We're staying at The Venetian Hotel for the entire trip - I don't care as long as I'm not paying. As Internet fees would be extremely expensive, I'll be online most of the time through phone.

Well, that's it people. I'll focus on finishing my story there.

Adieu!

Ever been affected by something but just didn't know what to feel?

I had one of the worst days of my life a few weeks ago, when I learned that the Hong Kong trip I was so really excited for was but a mere illusion. I remember dad planning for the flight, looking for new places to visit, never forgetting to include me in the itinerary. But one evening during our band practice at Liberty Hall, I learned from my aunt through a phone call that it was only my dad who was joining the trip, and not including me and my mom. How I tried to contain my tears while maintaining my composure in hitting the drums and playing the flute. No, I didn't think I would enjoy an 8-day vacation at HK (it's too long, a 5-day trip is more than enough), but for some reason, I felt sad. I excused myself for a little while and walked slowly down the stairs with tears welling down my cheeks.

But reality I had to accept, and I did. The next day, the entire thing about not being able to join the trip didn't bother me. Not even a bit. I even joked about getting the travel money as an exchange for not joining. Or maybe make my dad buy me the things I wanted. And so I gave my dad a list of things to look for, where to find them, and other related information that may help.

And so, my dad, my grandma, and my two aunt left for HK. I took their absence as an opportunity to do a lot of things for myself, including doing some photoshoots, getting myself some gadgets, and hanging out with my friends. But I kept my promise - I tidied up my room, maximized my time at the gym, did the upcoming Palawan thingys, and guarded the house from strangers.

Eight days later.

We had another band practice. The Palawan outing was only a few days away and there were still a lot of straightening up to do. Jua was there too - we had a recording session at our house that afternoon (hear what we recorded here). It was around ten in the evening when we finished. Mom drove everyone home.

We were to fetch Dad (and the others). I was excited, not because of the gifts. I didn't expect anything from them - not the Seagate 2TB hard disk drive I wanted, nor the Logitech Darkfield mouse that works on glass, not even the genuine Windows 7 Ultimate or a new camera and flash. No, in fact, the prices were too much that I just placed them on my wishlist for fun. All I ever wanted was to be asked "how are you?" or similar greetings. Or him being proud of me for appearing in Manila Bulletin for the third time. I wanted him to be happy at how I organized my desk and room; how everything was nicely put in place. Then there's also the Palawan things I did...

But instead I got scolded the instant we met, continued by a nagging session about my sleeping habits, etc on our entire trip to our house. I remained silent all the time. I didn't expect this. I didn't deserve this. I didn't know what to feel.

I was hurt, terribly, deep inside.

"It's for my own good," I kept telling myself. There were a thousand better ways to say it, though. He could have started with a smile when we met, then slowly shifting the conversation to a more reprimanding tone. But he didn't. He continued on like that even after arriving home. And he blamed everything on me - dirty walls, creaky table, disorganized things...

Tears are welling down my face as I am writing this down in paper at 2:30 in the morning. I'll post this in my blog later, and hopefully this sadness would be gone by then.

I'm bored... really bored. I don't know what to do, yet I know I need to do something else I'm just wasting my life away. So I decided to blog, with absolutely nothing in my mind.

I'm bored, because I'm tired of waiting. Waiting for updates. In deviantART, One Manga, and even here in Multiply. I plurk all the time but what's the use?

I'm stuck at HR5 in Monster Hunter and am about to give up at the difficulty of the high level quests. I want to play Mario Party but I can't since I still don't have a projector/TV.

There's nothing interesting to capture on film either.

Oh, what to do? What to do?

Facebook? Nah. Clean my room? Done that. Chores? None.

I learned yesterday that me and my mom wasn't included in next week's Hong Kong trip. And my high level of excitement was shattered to bits. I should have signed up in Reboot, too late.

I'm going crazy.

Too much freedom can drive a person nuts, you know.

The end of school life marks the beginning of a new chapter - career life.

This is where you decide whether or not to follow the career path you chose during college. This is where dreams are fulfilled or shattered, and this is when you become either a well-off millionaire, a normal middle-class person, or a sad failure. But we always aim for the best there is and could ever be, even in times of despair. Well, that's what I learned to be during my life as a Lasallian, especially during our thesis days.

Today I place my dreams in front of me once again. Years after, in the future, when I read this entry once again, shall I have a smile on my face? Or maybe regret?

Short term goals:
  • Appear at least 3 times in Manila Bulletin's Picture Perfect section in 2009
  • Appear in Uno High School's announcement board [link]
  • Ascend to HR9 or higher rank in Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
  • Finish dressing up my room with all desired equipment
  • Get jobs as a freelance photographer and/or web designer
  • Maximize my time before getting employed in a decent paying but fulfilling job
  • Submit a deviation in deviantART that receives over 100 favorites OR get a Daily Deviation
  • Upgrade my computer
Long term goals:
  • As a nature photographer, my pictures to appear in science (biology) books nationwide
  • Become a well known videographer/photographer
  • Drive my own car
  • Expand GUM & MUG to cater to other services aside from merchandising and optics
  • Get a masteral degree
  • Get employed in Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Google, or any high paying jobs outside the country
  • Learn how to play all major musical instruments from around the world
  • Resign after [insert # of years here] years then become the CEO of a self-owned company
  • Own a house (and lot, perhaps)
  • Be satisfied with my accomplishments
Well, that's basically it. I'll mark accomplished goals in green, and I bid college life adieu as I embark on my new journey.

I was, and is still an addict of the arcade game Dance Maniax. You see these machines in almost all arcades inside malls around the country. Whenever I see a machine I am always inclined to play a game or two, sometimes even 7, depending on how much time I've got on my hands.

Yeah, I encourage everyone to try it. A little exercise will do you good.

Recently I found my journal I wrote in English class during my last year in high school, and it did contain some history on DMX:

"It was October 29, 2005. After the Teacher's Day Program held at school, my friend's aunt drove us to SM San Lazaro. After having lunch at Greenwich, Stephanie [Chua] led us to Quantum. We then found out that she had a case of Dance Maniax-mania."

It was a journal about Christmas gifts and wishes, and my wish for her that time was that she would receive a ticket for unlimited credits to the game. Today, I wish I was the one who had that ticket.

After over almost 4 years, I've become much of an expert, incorporating freestyle and other wild moves while playing. It's fun to show off at times, especially to newbies and to my newly joined club [Equilibrium members]. I haven't grown tired of playing yet, and I don't see myself getting tired of dancing soon.

I want to buy one for myself.

A lot of people have been asking me why I still need a PC when in fact I already have a notebook. My answer is this: my laptop doesn't have the capability to do the intensive tasks I do with my desktop. Even until now I would prefer an ultraportable over a powerhouse you won't be able to place easily in a small backpack. Small and light is the way to go.

My ideal laptop for the year is the Fujitsu Lifebook P1630, a rspeedy upgrade to my 4-year old P1510. Like the P1510, it has the touch screen interface that got me addicted years past. There's now an embedded webcam, a bigger memory, longer battery life, clearer screen... and is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and it's only 8.9 inches and weighs less than 1kg!

If I were to upgrade my laptop this would be my choice, not unless Fujitsu comes up with a later upgrade with Windows 7.

Fujitsu Lifebook P1510Fujitsu Lifebook P1630

But enough with laptops. I don't think I'll be upgrading mine soon. I guess my P1510 will stick for another year or two (or less).

My room is currently under renovation and one part of the design will majorly depend on what PC peripherals I will have. I was left with no choice but to stop earning for camera gear and first concentrate on my PC upgrade.

Since high school, I had always wanted the latest (and err... most expensive) computer parts. And my [bad and impractical] attitude has stayed the same until now. So here you go - these are my crazy wants (and some needs)...

Chassis: Thermaltake Armor LCS VA7000BWA Full Tower Chassis
Power Supply Unit: GIGABYTE ODIN Pro GE-MK20A-D1 1200W PSU

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40 GHz
Motherboard: ASUS P5N-E SLI
Memory: 4.00 GB (4 x 1 GB DDR2)
Hard Disk: 8.00 TB (4 x 2.00 TB SATA)

Monitors: 2 x Samsung SyncMaster T190 (19" widescreen LCD monitor)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295

Speakers: Altec Lansing FX6021 (2.1 stereo system)
Logitech Z-5500 Digital (5.1 surround system)
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro

Keyboard: Logitech diNovo Edge
Mouse: Logitech MX Air
Printer: HP Photosmart D7160 Printer
Scanner: Canon CanoScan LiDE 20

in Normal - I already have them. ^^
in Bold - I'll get them sometime, hopefully.
in Italics - I'll live with them for the meantime...

College days.

I continued to use my foldable Praktica camera to capture memorable events like the Jasmin Child Development Center (JCDC) project we had in community service, Unean Reunions, and many more. It proved to be useful in events where packing light is a must because of its slim profile. It fits in my pocket, and taking it out and putting it back in wasn't a hassle at all...

...until I discovered a small crack in the camera.

Which led to much bigger cracks. Much later on, I couldn't use the camera anymore despite a lot of repair attempts. Looks like its time was up. Two years... perhaps I abused it too much.

My aunt got me a new camera. I requested for a brand I knew was reliable and the only digicam brands I trusted were Sony and Canon. I liked being on top and the way to do it was to own the best (most expensive) camera. That time, Sony Cybershot DSC-N2 had the highest megapixel count (10.1) so I went for that.

The quality of the photos was dramatically different from the ones I took from my two older cameras. Every pore when zoomed in can be seen and counted. I also enjoyed the touch screen interface of the camera, as well as an even longer battery life, more memory space (with Sony's memory sticks this time), and its gold metallic body.

I was exposed to a lot of new terms like VGA, macro, and the like.

I used my camera during our HUTECIN review on digital cameras. I took it out on a lot of events and fun occasions and it never disappointed me.

Finally, a camera I can stick to for a long, long time.

My parents and I went to Hong Kong for a vacation. I snapped photos all the time. On the final day, as we were at the airport waiting for the plane to fly us back to Manila, my camera dropped to the ground from my lap...

*crash*

My first instinct was to check for scratches that it might pick up during the fall. Luckily there was none, but when I tried to turn on the camera, I saw a black background with huge flickering crack on the middle of the screen.

Oh no, the horror...

I tapped and tapped and tapped the screen, and the crack just kept on getting worse. Sometimes I see faint pictures of the scenery for a few seconds, then it reverts back to its distorted state. I discovered that I could still take pictures with the camera, but without an optical viewfinder, and with a full touch-screen interface, operating the camera was insane.

Back home, we searched everywhere for places where we could have the camera repaired. In the Philippines and in Taiwan, the very final price for the repair job was around 5000 pesos - add just a few more and you already get a new camera. The most crucial part of the camera was broken...

My Cybershot didn't even last for a year.

I didn't dare ask for a new camera. The next few months I endured using the Cybershot and a camera I borrowed from someone. This camera had no autofocus and I had to literally adjust the lens like how photographers do it to get a clear picture. It was a different yet fun experience, and it attracted laughs every time people see me struggling.

Then came the SOCTEC2 field trip announcement.

I've always avoided overnights, especially if the place we're staying was not our home. This was one of them. We'll be staying at the Monte Vista Resort at Los Banos. There were many reasons why I didn't like overnights:
  1. I'm overprotected by my parents and relatives. They didn't want me to go.
  2. I'm concerned about my grandma. She's old and I don't want anything to happen to her when I'm gone.
  3. I have to share a room with other people when I'm only used to sleeping in my parents' room.
  4. I don't have a working camera but I want to take pictures.
I have to admit, the last reason was the biggest reason why I didn't want to go. I took quite some time to find my first camera, but I just couldn't find it. But even if I did, I needed to bring a bag of batteries just to supply enough power for it.

After weeks of convincing, my parents finally gave in. I got a Sony Cybershot DSC-H9 hybrid camera. I was amazed at Shirlina's camera so I got a similar one. I could ask for a DSLR but I needed video recording functions so I had to settle for this one.

Zooooom! This one had 15x optical zoom. Later on, I got a telephoto lens converter and was able to zoom all the way to 26x. For DSLR users, that's equivalent to a 800mm lens.

It's time I get to the main topic. After I got my superzoom camera, I enjoyed taking close-ups of my classmates and friends - their faces almost took up the whole frame. This continued on until my friends decided to give my photography a name. And they named it "Solomon Shots." Now you know.

Yes, I'm a stalker. I enjoy being one. And I will be much successful in Hollywood. Or so they say.

The next few details are a bit rusty. I didn't know how it happened, but my aunt decided to give me a DSLR after some time (after I proved to them that I could take better care of my things perhaps). Choosing brands was the hardest part, and believe me, actions speak louder than words.

I listed out the leading brands. An easy task - Nikon and Canon. I've tried both [entry-level models] and I still could hardly choose. If I go for Nikon I have to stick to it all the way... from equipment to parts to everything. It's virtually impossible to switch brands when you already have existing (should I say expensive) equipment unless you've got a lot of money to burn (which I do not).

I decided it was better if I focus on what I really wanted.

And so I decided not to follow my friends' advice to go for the known brands. I wanted functions. I wanted features. I wanted something that could stand out. I wanted to be different. I wanted to prove something. And so I chose Sony.

Initially I had a tough time choosing between A350 and A700. In the end, I chose the former because of Live View and its higher megapixel count.

That's how I looked at cameras before - the higher the megapixels, the better. But today I've learned that things aren't measured by that. Things aren't measured by how expensive they are either. Nor by brand. I could only say that after years of experience. For instance, I learned that 2,000 peso Apple In-Ear Headphones are greatly outmatched by 400 peso A4Tech ones I got years back. Printers worth 10,000 pesos aren't any better than those dramatically cheaper ones either.

My current addiction is insect photography. It's a fun challenge. Adrenaline rushes through my body every time I need to go near something I don't know is poisonous or not. When I need a closer view I attach my macro filter and go as close as 2mm from the subject. It's hard, but I like it.

And so, many days pass by. And I'm sticking with Sony all the way, and I've got three main lenses in my arsenal. There are a lot more to study. I'm still a rookie in terms of flash photography and portraiture, but I'll improve. You just see.

For years I didn't want to believe in this saying, but now I finally agree:

In my friend Ricco's words, "It's not the camera that what makes a picture great."

So guys, what do you now think of Sony Alphas?

High school days.

I envied my friends who had digital cameras. Cameras like these carry a lot of advantages over film ones. First, you get to see the picture you took immediately after taking it. Second, you're not limited to 16, 32, or 64 shots. Memory cards (SD) with 16 megabytes or more could already store hundreds of pictures for the 2-3 megapixel cameras emerging in the market. Then you can delete unwanted pictures and free memory for additional shots.

There's one clear advantage of film cameras over digital ones (at that time) though - higher image quality.

Nevertheless, I wanted one. A digital camera.

My aunt gave me a 5.5 megapixel camera to my delight; at that time the common cameras only had 3.2 megapixels. Two AA-sized batteries lasted for about an hour or two, but were enough to capture a day's events at school.

Then it happened. My camera broke. Or rather, my classmate Keith broke my camera. He had this squeegee in his hand which he slammed into the lens of my camera, breaking it.

I exploded in anger.

I endured weeks and weeks waiting for my camera to get repaired. Despair shrouded me when I learned that my camera won't be out until six more months, particularly because my aunt got it from Taiwan and the replacement parts weren't easy to get.

My aunt got me another camera. This time it was a 3.2 megapixel foldable one which for some reason was able to take higher quality photos than my first one.

I enjoyed using it, and I continued to use it even after I got my repaired camera back. My new one was lighter, looked nicer, took better photos and videos, and had a longer battery life. What's not to like about it?

And my old camera was cast aside inside an abandoned drawer.

Grade school days.

"You can do it! Go beat those guys and win first place!"

Cheers reverbated in the air. But for some strange reason, I retreated from the diving board after the whistle blew during my last swimming competition. It was a shameful moment that became the downfall of my swimming career. With that, I vowed never to join any swimming contests anymore.

A few weeks later, my mom brought the photos she took during the competition. And my eyes were transfixed on a single photo out of the thirty-two (32) pictures from the film camera.

It was a picture of me. Two mes - one on the diving board and one when I jumped back. How was that possible? I tried images moving in high speed but couldn't get the same effect in all of my attempts and wasted films.

From that moment on, thirteen (13) years back, I became interested in photography. I always borrowed the family camera every time we went to our church summer conference in Baguio City. Snap! Snap! Snap!

Taking pictures was fun. Really fun. But there were instances wherein I got really fed up with cameras too. The most memorable one was when I went to Malaysia for the first time many many years back.

The photographer was pathetically incompetent, and we wasted a lot of time dillydallying in the studio. Many more factors added up, and in my anger, I vowed never to take part in any photoshoot ever again.

I could only laugh at the irony in my present situation.

"No. No way." I complained.

But many of my peers liked the idea, saying "ok na yan."

"Can't you think of any other name? Parang gumagaya kasi sa 'Brotherhood' e."

So a votation came along but the original proposed name still held majority of the votes.

And that's how the Sisterhood + 1 was born...

I miss you all.

Today is my last day at Vibal... and... I don't know what to say...

I couldn't be any more happier. At last, no more waking up at 6 am (at least while I'm unemployed). No more working for nine hours in front of a slow PC. No more... colleagues...

No, I am not in the mood to celebrate.

Throughout my stay in Vibal, I've met a lot of people and experienced a lot of stuff that somehow changed my life. I've also seen people come and go - including Yayi (correct my spelling if I'm wrong), Mondo, and King. It's now my time...

I still remember it clearly - our thesis project. During the proposal stage, Doc Lloyd, our thesis adviser, almost failed our group because we couldn't find the right problems that can be solved by a book portal solution. Yes, our thesis company was none other than Vibal Publishing itself. Sir Richard was mostly our contact, but we also consulted with Sir Alfred too.

I wish I had worked in Vibal during our thesis stage. That would have assured our group of a grade at least 3.5. Problems were everywhere, ranging from simple misunderstandings and misinterpretations to missing and mismanaged content to insanity and ambitiousness to infinity and beyond. Roar!

I remember the day we presented our final thesis project to Sir Richard. Doc Lloyd, Ms. Kiran, and Ms. Ulit was there, and they were particularly surprised as to why we went to Vibal when our thesis was done already. This proves how responsible our group was.

After avoiding additional hassles care of Sir Richard, we met with Sir Alfred and he gave me my first task as a practicum applicant - to transfer our thesis project to their computer.

That was the first time I met King.

My first impression of King was that he played a very vital role in the department, whatever that was. He was working alone, with only Sir Alfred around. I had a brief conversation with King about XAMPP which I hardly understood at all. Wamp server wasn't working, so I had no choice but to use the former. I remember experimenting with the Command Prompt in frustration as I absolutely had no idea what to do without sqlYog.

Fast forward. Jerlou cancelled her application at Vibal and I was left alone in a room full of strangers. King was my first friend and he invited me to have lunch with him upstairs. I lost him and ended up seating in the worst position I could ever be in - with seatmates mad at me for occupying their table.

Ah, WinRose Canteen. I wouldn't forget about you. Home of the cheapest food (before Mar invited us to his lunchplace), there were two dishes I absolutely loved. Chicken curry and Bicol express. And though I didn't want to, I learned how to eat eggplant.

Nor. Leyna. Simon. Fish. Pat. Mondo... my lunchmates from the Multimedia department. Nor and Mondo are taking up their masterals in DLSU, so sometimes I relate to their conversations. Through time I learned to blend with the group, and they provide great company when I choose to have lunch upstairs alone.

Back to the room. Yayi was an intern and she leaves way earlier than I do. That's because I always work overtime. She doesn't. I brought my DLSR to commemorate her last day, but sadly I didn't have the chance to give her a proper farewell before she left the company for good. I voved never to make the same mistake again.

Mar was a silent one and preferred not to talk. How wrong we were - especially when his "scandal" photos were leaked! Mar was particularly talkative during the morning and during lunchtime. He introduced me to the 5th Avenue route and I usually join him as we leave Vibal day by day. We've had some really interesting conversations; there are times when I go "what the heck is he talking about." But seriously though, I've learned a lot through our geeky conversations.

Yayi's departure led to the inclusion of Jamie, the PRD writer. I remembered her easily as she goes on with her trademark "soshal" every time she gets amazed by the system. Much later on, we became close friends online as she reintroduced me to a game I long quit playing - Ragnarok Online.

When Sally arrived, the e-learning department suddenly became a tight-knit group of five. We became close friends with one another, sharing happy and sad moments alike, passing on diseases from one person to another... especially when swine flu was at its peak in the country. We were like... "oh no wag mo kami hawaan." We are the E-Stars!

Then came JR. Sally's "boyfriend" during her lowest moments. When Jamie was transferred back to her original department, JR started joining us for lunch. He always brings his own food. I see something brewing between him and Jamie. Hmmm...

Lastly came Dhong and Donkey. Initially the two were always associated with one another. Dhong always brings his tumbler full of coffee every morning. Donkey always sits in his purple pillow beside Dhong. And oh, he was so cute that we just couldn't resist snatching him from Dhong's table. In fact, as I am writing this article at home, Donkey's here with me. He's our official mascot, stress reliever, and pink friend.

Sir Alfred was always the ambitious one, Sir Richard the practical yet demanding overseer, Doc Lloyd the one that comes and goes once a week for 5 minutes, Ms. Rio the understanding one, Sir Jules the heartthrob (as mentioned by who knows who), Ms. Malou the scary one....

Oh, and those teachers working alongside us. And those ongoing renovations - how could I ever forget them?

Well, that's about it. Here's a brief summary:

  • MY LAST DAY AT VIBAL...

"We're going to Taiwan. Ask permission from your boss to give you a vacation leave."

I was shocked when I heard the news. I was irritated since one week out of the country would mean another week of work for me at Vibal - and I still have some deliverables to present to Sir Alfred. I wanted to go, however, since I've never been to Taiwan before. Another reason would perhaps be the increasing stress levels at work.

And now, we're at the airport, waiting for the plane to arrive. We've had problems earlier in the morning, but now everything has become calm and I am starting to get excited. I have a good impression on their products - most of my gadgets I bought (or asked someone to buy for me) from Taiwan. These include all my cameras (aside from my prosumer camera DSC-H9), my two lenses, and many of my other electronics at home.

To Tori, happy birthday! Sorry for not being able to attend your party, but nevertheless enjoy your day. ^^

To my colleagues at Vibal - I'll bring home a plushie para may kasama na si Donkey. Hehehe. To Jamie, meet sa RO a, lalaro ako doon! To Sally, dadala ako ng bato. :-P

To everyone - I'll try to be online as often as possible, but since we're not staying in a hotel, I'm not sure as to when. Check everyday for photos as well.

Bon voyage, everyone!

It was the first day of class...

Everyone lined up in front of the playground, waited for the bell, and walked in an orderly manner into their individual classrooms. Each made their way to a random seat close to their peers and waited for the instructor's signal.

"Shinji."
"Present."

"Takehiro."
"Present."

Takehiro raised his hand. He was seated close to me, as I told him to do so. We met earlier that morning a few minutes before going to school together, not before I surprised him with my new look. I'm sure right now he was the only one who knew me.

"Takeshi," the teacher called, and immediately as I raised my hand and said "present," I felt that every eye in the room was upon me. As I looked around (trying not to feel awkward at the overwhelming attention), I noticed smiles, dropped jaws, and emotions I couldn't decipher. Even the teacher was shocked.

But Operation MeTaMoRpHoSiS proved to be successful only up to a certain point. Weeks after, everyone knew me as the person I was during the past - nerdy, puny, pathetic.

To be continued...
